Spring 2
This half term our topic is
On the farm
Please take a look at our Medium Term Plans. There is an 'At home' section filled with ideas you and you child could enjoy together. We would love to hear and see photographs all about your adventures at home and in the community. Please keep us updated through the dojo app.
On the Farm
This half term in Scarlet Class, we have been learning about the farm. We have focused each week on a different animal: cow, pig and sheep. Each week we have had themed tuff spot activities for the children to explore, including sand, soil, small world farm toys, coco pops and cotton wool balls. We have made lots of lovely pieces of art around each of the animals, using a variety of materials. Each week on our bus trip, we have visited Pets Corner at Jesmond Dene park to look at all the different types of animals. In cookery, we have been making rice krispie cakes. The children have been using communication boards to ask for the equipment and ingredients they will need and some have been predicting the next step in the recipe. For PE this half term, we have had a football coach from SAFC join us and we have been completing obstacle courses each week. The children have been developing their gross motor skills by climbing, crawling and jumping off various equipment. Whilst exploring the Discovery Park each week, the children have been creating nature farm animal pictures with natural resources they have found outside. In our phonics and early writing sessions, the children have been exploring different shapes such as long and short lines, to create capital letter shapes. We have also been listening and matching different animal noises to the correct animal. During our various maths activities, the children have been counting animals, taking one away and also sorting them. All the children have really enjoyed learning about animals on the farm this half term.
Easter
We have been celebrating Easter in Scarlet Class for the last two weeks of the term. We have focused on bunnies and chicks and been learning the Makaton signs for these animals. We have been doing lots of different art activities in relation to Easter such as making cards, printing egg patterns, decorating bunny faces and making chick splat art with paint and forks. The children have enjoyed our sensory Easter story and themed Sensology lesson, as they’ve been able to taste chocolate eggs! We hope everyone has a lovely Easter break and we look forward to seeing the children again for our summer term.
Story Massage
Each morning, within our wellbeing session, we have been enjoying a massage! We listen to a song linked to our topic, which this half term is 'On the farm', and receive specific massage moves on our backs and arms in time the the beat.
Please take a look at some of the moves we enjoy and please get in touch if you would like any more information about massage stories or if you would like the song link and some advice on how to replicate this relaxing experience in the home setting.
