Our Senses
This half term our topic in Scarlet class has been “Our Senses”. Each week we have focused on one of the five senses and explored lots of objects around these. We started off in week 1 with ‘taste’, which we linked in with Halloween. We all got the opportunity to try some different foods including pumpkin and some Halloween sweets. We started a new Sensology session which was all Halloween themed and made some Halloween inspired art. Week 2 was all about ‘hear’, where we had lots of fun exploring different noises in our environment. We linked this to bonfire night and listening to the sound of fireworks. We linked in our sensory story, which was ‘What’s that noise’ and we had a go at making the different animal noises from the book. We also explored some different musical instruments this week such as rain makers and chimes. Week 3 we learned all about ‘touch’ so had lots of different textured material out to feel. In art we made a texture collage and some ice cube pictures. We felt hot and cold things as well as exploring soft, fluffy, hard and rough textures. In week 4, we focused on ‘smell’. We had scent bags out to explore which included vinegar, perfume, mustard and orange. We had a go at labelling our own bodies and trying to match the senses to the correct parts. For our final week about senses, we focused on ‘sight’. We got the black out tent and torches out in the classroom and played pin the goggles on the minion with the blind fold! We have really enjoyed learning about our senses this half term and look forward to finishing off the term with lots of fun Christmas activities.
Christmas Fun!
We have all had lots of fun this December with all of our Christmas activities. We welcomed our parents and family in for a stay and play afternoon, where we showed them our classroom and what we like to play with. We also decorated some Christmas tree baubles then finished off with some games, music and snacks in our PE hall. On one of our weekly bus trips, we went to Richardsons Garden Centre to visit the Reindeers and some of us had a go at feeding them! We enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner one day and also had lots of fun at our Christmas party, which was followed by a visit and gift from Santa! We have been doing lots of Christmas crafts including cards, hand print trees, photo frames and baubles. On the last day of school we enjoyed a special Christmas movie day!
