Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

Autumn 2

This term we are focusing on magic and mess. We will start off with Halloween, then learn about Remembrance Day before heading into a magical land. We will enjoy engrossing ourselves in a world of dragons and unicorns and before we know it we will be celebrating Christmas. We will continue to develop our communication skills, working on PECS, using Communication Boards as well as introducing the children to Makaton. We will listen to different stories and use sensory props to help us explore them fully as well as take part in sensology sessions which will awaken all of our senses. We will take weekly trips on the bus, to the park at first and then to visit the Reindeer and Clays Garden Centre to explore the Christmas decorations. We will listen to counting songs, look at patterns and shapes and use them to make models and pictures. We will bake biscuits weekly, exploring the different smells and textures of the ingredients as well as observing the changes made. We will continue to take part in swimming sessions and will have a big focus on turn-taking in games in PE. What a fun time we have planned :-)

Magic and Mess...

We listened to the story 'There's a Unicorn in Your Book'. We took part in sensology using our senses to explore different items linked to the story such as marshmallows, glitter, vanilla, worry gremlins and then used the communication boards to PECS to request what we wanted. We made unicorn biscuits and loved mixing the different ingredients. We investigated shapes in maths and have started to play party games in PE.

Christmas Stay and Play

We had a lovely Stay & Play Session with our families. We explore oats and raisins to make Reindeer food. We used paint and glitter to decorate salt dough stars and printed with pieces of fern to make Christmas cards. We had a great time together and made lots of mess!

Christmas Time ...

We had a fantastic build up to Christmas. We enjoyed learning to play party games such as musical bumps, follow the leader and pass the parcel. We made salt dough decorations, used our fingerprints to make snowy trees and enjoyed mark making during write dance. We made Rainbow calendars for our parents as well as a snowman Christmas card. We loved going swimming and had a fantastic time exploring the snow in our outdoor area. We've had such a fantastic Autumn term :-)
