Yoga and Relaxation Club

What is Yoga and relaxation club?

In Yoga and relaxation club children learn new strategies to support them in regulating their emotions and behaviour. Through a range of fun games, stories and activities, children learn to control their breathing, move their bodies in new ways and learn to trust their bodies and abilities to regulate their emotions and behaviour.

All sessions are divided in 3 sections Mind, Move and Me, following the Growing Gurus method of mindfulness and yoga. 

First we focus the mind through breathing exercises, teaching children to be ‘in the moment’ letting go of any distractions, worries and stress. Mindfulness teaches children to focus on the here and now. Deep breathing exercises are proven to improve moods and feelings of control.

During our movement section we practice basic yoga movements, balancing games and other exercises to gain confidence in the body’s ability, support focus, concentration and learning. 

During the me section we focus on what the children can do and achieve, during the relaxation at the end of the session, children are encouraged to listen to relaxation music, sometimes a meditation or visualisation, supporting self esteem and imagination as well as learning to speak positively about themselves and others.
