Little Steps, Big Aspirations For All

First Aid Club

This half term we have started our brand new ‘First Aid’ lunchtime club. The club has been set up to teach Key Stage 2 children, with interests in this area, some basic first aid skills. Once they have completed all areas the children will receive a certificate to say that they are Key Stage 2 First Aiders. The club follows the St John’s Ambulance Key Stage 2 First Aid Pathway and the children are taught the following areas:

  • Calling for help
  • Head Injuries
  • Bites and stings
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding
  • Choking
  • Basic Life Support

The club is on every Wednesday lunchtime for around 30 minutes and will look at the different areas of first aid. In the first 3 weeks we have focused on calling for help. During these sessions they have spoken about the importance of making real calls and why hoax calls are dangerous. They have learnt what checks they should do should they come across an incident by making sure it is safe for them and finding out what information they need to tell the emergency services should they need to call them. Alongside this, the children have been working on learning their home addresses should they ever need to make a call from home.
